Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ShedWatch

Getting Started

What is ShedWatch?

ShedWatch monitors NYC construction permits near your business and alerts you before they become active disruptions. We track sidewalk sheds, street excavations, lane closures, and more so you can plan ahead.

How does ShedWatch know about nearby permits?

We pull data directly from NYC Open Data sources (DOB NOW and DOT) every hour, then match permits to your registered business location by proximity. You get alerted about anything filed within your alert radius.

What areas does ShedWatch cover?

ShedWatch currently covers all five boroughs of New York City. We plan to expand to additional cities in the future.

Plans & Pricing

What's included in the free plan?

The free plan includes basic permit monitoring within a 150ft radius, daily email alerts, and your Impact Score. You'll see permit counts and severity breakdowns but some details like exact addresses and expiry dates are only available on paid plans.

What do I get with Starter or Pro?

Starter unlocks full permit details, customizable alert radius (up to 500ft), push notifications, impact score trends, foot traffic insights, and permit duration stats.

Pro adds support for up to 3 locations, "next to clear" predictions, block-level comparisons, and priority email support.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

Yes. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel anytime from the Account tab in the app. Changes take effect at the end of your current billing period.

Alerts & Notifications

How quickly will I be notified about new permits?

We check for new permit filings every hour. Once a new permit is detected within your alert radius, you'll receive a notification based on your alert preferences (email, push, or both).

Can I adjust my alert radius?

Yes. Free plan users have a fixed 150ft radius. Starter plan users can set up to 500ft, and Pro users up to 1,000ft. You can change this in Settings → Alert Preferences.

Impact Score

What is the Impact Score?

Your Impact Score (0–100) measures the overall construction disruption risk near your business. It factors in the number, type, severity, and proximity of active permits. A higher score means more potential disruption.

How often is my Impact Score updated?

Your score is recalculated daily and also updates automatically when new permits are detected near your location.

Account & Data

How do I change my business address?

Go to Settings → My Locations, then tap on your location card. You can update the address by searching for a new one.

Is my data private?

Yes. We only store your business location and alert preferences. Permit data comes from public NYC Open Data sources. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I contact support?
